The construction of this primary school in Ybbs an der Donau, was completed in 2009, and is an early example of mass timber architecture. Designed by Architekturbüro Grundstein, the school showcases the innovative use of cross-laminated timber (CLT). This project utilized Sylva™ CLT Floors and Roofs and Walls.

The application of Sylva™ CLT Floors and Roofs and Walls provided several advantages. The material’s high load-bearing capacity allowed for the creation of large, open spaces within the school, promoting a flexible and adaptable learning environment. Additionally, the precision and quality of the prefabricated CLT elements ensured a swift and efficient construction process, reducing on-site labour and minimizing waste.

One of the most significant benefits of using CLT in construction is its low carbon footprint. As a renewable resource, timber is a sustainable alternative to traditional building materials such as concrete and steel. The natural properties of wood, including its ability to regulate humidity and temperature, contribute to a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for students and staff alike.
