Designed as a dedicated museum to the famed illustrator, the Heath Robinson Museum is located in London, where the creative lived from 1908 until 1918. The building includes Heath Robinson Gallery, a special exhibition gallery, conservation and storage areas, in addition to an activity room and shop.

The William Heath Robinson Museum, designed by ZMMA Architects, has a whimsical and ingenious spirit of the artist it honors. Located in Pinner Memorial Park, the museum provides a permanent home for the extensive collection of Heath Robinson's work, offering both permanent and temporary exhibition spaces, a learning/activity studio, and an archive space.

One of the standout features of the museum is its use of cross-laminated timber (CLT) in its construction.

The museum's structure showcases an intricate latticed timber design that not only supports the building but also adds to its aesthetic appeal.

The architectural form of the museum is both contemporary and contextually sensitive. The angular shapes and pitched roofs of the building create a dynamic visual experience, while the brick cladding references the surrounding historic structures.

The design allows for generous views in and out of the building, connecting the interior spaces with the picturesque setting of Memorial Park. Inside, the exposed timber structure of the ceilings is both surprising and logical, reflecting the playful yet practical nature of Heath Robinson's work.

ZMMA Architects have successfully created a space that is open, inviting, and architecturally memorable. The museum's design encourages exploration and engagement, with spaces that feel deceptively generous and unconventional.

The museum has received several accolades for its design and construction. It was shortlisted for the RIBA London Awards, which recognize architectural excellence in the capital. The use of CLT and the innovative design approach have been particularly praised for their sustainability and creativity.
