Version of this project
Can you build an elliptical building right around several houses? You can if you are ByggPartner and you have a Sylva™ by Stora Enso building kit!
With a strong commitment to not demolish existing housing stock, creating unnecessary construction waste, the Swedish Transport Administration decided to do just that when their 1970s building no longer served its original intended purpose.
Diös, one of Sweden's largest property companies that owns the building, engaged architects to review how they could jointly find a sustainable solution. The result was this remarkable wooden castle of offices with spaces adapted for activity-based ways of working.
The connecting ellipse serves as a communication lane to access all of the buildings (the same length as a 400-metre running track). For all of the walking you can do in those corridors, the building itself has an impressively small footprint. Being framed with sustainable Sylva™ by Stora Enso CLT Walls and Floors, the Ellipse generates a fraction of the climate-damaging carbon dioxide than a brand-new concrete building of the same size would have done.
The renovation extension is a BREEAM certified example of how working in partnership and applying Sylva kits can transform existing building stock and reuse it in a transformative and climate-smart way.
