Mediavaert, at 73-meter tall and 46,000 square meters (approximately 4.5 city blocks) making it the largest mass timber hybrid office buildings in Europe. It is the new headquarters for DPG Media, and an iconic landmark in Amsterdam.

Designed by Team V Architecture, it opened in the summer of 2024. The building has already redefined the skyline of the Amstelkwartier Riverside District and expanded what is possible with mass timber construction.

Constructed on an existing car park adjacent to the printing house of the media company, the project will group all the different Dutch publications, radio stations, and online media of DPG Media under one roof. Seeking to transform Amstel Business Park Zuid from a traditional business park into a mixed urban area called Werkstad Overamstel, the building will lead the way for future developments. The design incorporates green terraces and open spaces to foster social interaction and collaboration.

The Sylva™ building kit of parts delivered by our partners, WIEHAG Timber Construction, played a crucial role in overcoming the challenges of constructing such a large timber hybrid structure.

The building has already garnered attention and accolades within the architectural community for its innovative design and sustainable construction methods. The jury noted when awarding the National Timber Award:

'Wooden business buildings are, by definition, pleasant buildings to work in. And they always look beautiful. Investing in a wooden building is also investing in the users of that building. This is something that is becoming increasingly important in times of staff shortages. Mediavaert in Amsterdam (is) a large office building with a complicated schedule of requirements. The fact that it was realized as a wood-hybrid was not the main issue. But this was not an afterthought: the timber construction method turned out to be a considerable cost saving due to the high speed of construction.'
