Version of this project
Stora Enso the global renewables learder will be the main tenant of the new 23 000 m² premises consisting of sustainable 6 500 m³ of CLT cross laminated timber and 2 000 m³ laminated veneer lumber LVL.
One of the most ambitious goals of the Katajanokan Laituri project is to build a carbon-neutral office building which uses energy solely from renewable sources.
The goal is an office complex that is completely CO₂-neutral, both in construction and operation. The aim is to achieve this by planning the entire building as timber construction and relying exclusively on renewable energy sources. The building will store 5 865 tonnes of carbon dioxide. (To put that in perspective, diesel produces 1 tonne after driving 6 000 km).
Climate-neutral investments
In addition to Stora Enso and the hotel, other companies will also be able to rent space in the extensive complex. The property is being developed by the Finnish pension insurance company Varma, which has set itself the goal of having a climate-neutral investment portfolio by 2035. To this end, the company has sold its investments in coal and oil and is instead investing in emission-free electricity and climate-neutral heating.
