Welcome to the House of Woodwork – Dafeng Timber Structure Research and Design Center. This is Stora Enso's first project in China delivered via the Silk Road by train.

The "House of Woodwork" in Dafeng, Yancheng City, China is a research and development center for timber structure buildings, adjacent to its wood component manufacturing factories.

The property is constructed with glued laminated timber (GLT/glulam) and a Sylva™ CLT building kit by Stora Enso.

The pitched roof increases the usable internal height and exposes the wooden structure, creating a warm sense of belonging and home for the factory and office workers.

As is often the case when working with Sotra Enso, our delivery services are sometimes as impressive as the final build. With this case, the project was shipped from Austria to Defeng by train!

The distance from Ybbs to Dafeng is ca. 12,500km. The journey time by rail was only around 30 days, whereas ocean transport would have been at least 45 days. While Stora Enso has made several low emission deliveries by rail, this was our first delivering wood products to China by rail.
