The extension of the office building for the non-profit building cooperative “Waldviertel” , (WAV for short) was inaugurated on 13 November 2017. This project, designed by the architectural firm Mag. arch. Thomas Tauber from Krems, who added eight new offices and a modern meeting room above the garages, enhancing the cooperative’s operational capacity.

The office premises were celebrated as a significant milestone for the cooperative, which has been planning, building, and managing over 4,000 units in the Waldviertel, Weinviertel, and Mostviertel regions for more than 60 years. The cooperative employs over 75 people and is known for its commitment to engaging local small and medium-sized enterprises, thereby strengthening the regional economy and securing jobs.

The architectural intervention involved small renovations in the existing building to create additional office spaces. The new construction was executed using timber frame construction, with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability. A 210 m² photovoltaic system was installed on the roof to partially cover the company’s energy needs, reflecting the cooperative’s commitment to sustainable practices. The total construction costs for the office extension amounted to approximately 1.25 million euros.

A notable feature of this project was the application of 120 m³ of Sylva™ CLT Floors and Roofs, and Sylva™ CLT Walls. This choice not only enhanced the building’s aesthetic appeal but also provided significant practical benefits. The use of Sylva™ CLT elements contributed to reduced material usage and faster, more efficient installation, aligning with the project’s sustainability goals.

The cooperative has been a close partner of the “Living in the Waldviertel” initiative for many years. Through its comprehensive range of apartments and terraced houses, including options for “young living” and “assisted living,” the housing cooperative continues to significantly expand the real estate offerings in the Waldviertel region of Austria.
