Version of this project
Stora Enso Rib Panels were ideal for this application because they can span over six meters and have impressive strength and structural performance. Needing only a handful of tradespeople, the Rib Panels required no extra special equipment and were installed using regular carpentry tools.
The Hylte Mill in southwest Sweden is one of the largest newsprint mills in the world, and has the capacity to produce 245,000 tonnes of newsprint per year, along with biocomposites and formed fibre products. When existing plant needed to expand to produce formed fiber they turned to a prefabricated solution by Stora Enso.
The Ribs Panels were made by bonding a CLT panel with a high-strength adhesive. One of the key advantages Rib Panels offer is the ability to created wide open expansive spaces. This is important for industrial spaces as their use and equipment needs can change over time.
The very high quality visual industrial grade CLT was left exposed to maximize the biophilic effects for the mill workers.
