Version of this project
Blue Gate Antwerp is a logistics and office facility developed by Montea in Antwerp’s former petroleum harbor. The project demonstrates how a Sylva kit of parts can be effectively applied in industrial settings, delivering speed, performance, and precision in commercial construction.
Project Overview
The business park is located on a remediated brownfield site in the former petroleum harbor of Antwerp. According to the project’s developer, Blue Gate Antwerp Development NV, it is Belgium’s first ‘eco-effective, water-bound business park’. Meaning the site is designed to support circular operations and growth, offering multimodal access by road, water, and public transport.
Construction materials
For the construction of a new logistics and office facility that spans 2,800 m² on a single-storey structure, Blue Gate, Montea selected Sylva™ by Stora Enso, a prefabricated mass timber building kit for the two office at either end of the concrete warehouse.
The project used Sylva CLT Walls, Sylva Floors, and Sylva Roofs, with a total of 825 m³ of engineered timber delivered in just four weeks across nine shipments. These elements were key to achieving rapid assembly, reduced on-site waste, and a significantly lower carbon footprint.
The building is fully powered by renewable energy, including a 1.5 MWp solar installation, and heated via high-efficiency heat pumps.
Awards and Recognition
The Blue Gate Antwerp project has received two prestigious awards so far:
-Realty Sustainable Building Award in the Industrial & Logistics category.
-EXPO REAL Impact Award 2024 in Munich, recognizing innovation and alignment with the New European Bauhaus initiative.
