Version of this project
The five-star hotel and apartment complex in Bodø, located within the Arctic Circle, is a remarkable example of sustainable and innovative architecture. This project, which played a significant role during Bodø's tenure as the European Capital of Culture in 2024, showcases the effective use of prefabricated Sylva™ materials to overcome environmental challenges.
Overcoming Construction Challenges with Prefabricated Sylva™
Rønvikfjellet, located directly on the coast, presents significant construction challenges due to high winds and its remote hilltop location. These factors complicate crane usage and site access. However, the use of lightweight prefabricated Sylva™ CLT elements successfully mitigated these issues. The Sylva360™ digital tool further streamlined the installation process, ensuring efficiency and precision.
Sustainable Design and Reduced Carbon Footprint
The hotel and apartment complex was made using Sylva™ CLT elements, resulting in a lower carbon footprint compared to traditional steel and concrete construction. This sustainable approach is complemented by a collaboration with Bodø Energi, which enables the hotel to generate its own energy through rooftop solar panels.
