Malga Zambana is situated at 1,800 meters in the breathtaking alpine landscape of the Paganella Alps in Trentino. Surrounded by forests and pastures with panoramic views over the Adige Valley, the area is popular year-round and easily accessible in both summer and winter.

The project involved demolishing an old structure and constructing a new two-level hospitality facility covering approximately 400 m². The ground floor features a restaurant with a professional kitchen, a bar, and a 200 m² sun terrace. The basement includes technical rooms and storage areas.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the building utilizes natural, high-performance materials. It is certified A+ in energy efficiency, thanks to its well-insulated envelope, mineral wool insulation, triple-glazed windows, and energy-efficient systems.

Architecturally, the building blends seamlessly into the mountain setting with partially buried volumes, a green roof, and a façade combining wood and pre-patinated sheet metal. The structure consists of a concrete basement and an above-ground CLT timber frame, with wall thicknesses ranging from 120 to 160 mm and a laminated timber roof insulated with 200 mm of mineral wool.

Large glazed openings enhance natural light and passive solar gain, creating a modern yet nature-connected mountain retreat.
