Hotel Negresco, in the alpine town of Andalo and surrounded by the dramatic Brenta Dolomites, has long been a landmark of mountain hospitality. Originally opened in the 1980s and operated by the Bottamedi family, the hotel underwent a major expansion and renovation in 2024 to enhance sustainability, comfort, and guest experience.

The renovation focused on upgrading the ground floor reception, bar, and restaurant areas, while adding a new underground wellness center. To minimize construction time and environmental impact, the owners opted for a timber extension using Sylva™ cross-laminated timber (CLT) and glued laminated timber (GLT/glulam) beams.

The new structure rests on a reinforced concrete slab and features 100 mm thick Sylva CLT Walls, with a mixed roof system combining exposed and concealed glulam elements. Steel columns were discreetly integrated to support large glass openings and maintain low floor heights.

Precision and performance

A 3D laser scanner survey enabled precise geometric modeling of the existing building, ensuring seamless integration between old and new structures. Fire safety standards (REI 60) were met using specialized fire-resistant cladding on interior timber walls. The prefabricated timber system allowed the entire extension to be completed in just three months, bridging the winter and summer seasons—an achievement that underscores the speed and reliability of Sylva™ solutions in alpine environments.
