Welcome to the Eclipse Leisure Centre in Spelthorne! Together with our partners, B&K Hybrid Solutions we have successfully delivered the UK’s largest wet and dry leisure centre built to the ultra-low energy Passivhaus standard. This achievement marks a significant milestone for energy-efficient public buildings. It is anticipated that the new centre will use between 60 and 70% less energy than typical leisure centres.

B&K Hybrid Solutions played a crucial role in this £50 million project by delivering the hybrid cross-laminated timber (Sylva™ by Stora Enso), glulam, and steel frame.

The Eclipse Leisure Centre, located in Staines-upon-Thames in Spelthorne UK offers a comprehensive range of facilities, including a 200-station gym, two swimming pools, a sports hall, squash courts, Clip 'n Climb, and rooftop football (soccer) pitches.

The mass timber solution is particularly well-suited for the Health and Leisure sector, especially as the kit of parts meets both sustainability and cost-certainty benefits.

Given that leisure facilities are high energy consumers and can be prone to comfort and overheating issues, adopting low-energy Passivhaus standards for the Eclipse Leisure Centre has enabled the local government to meet their sustainability goals within budget.
