Version of this project
This wooden educational building Parklassen in Merksem (Belgium) followed the renovation of the historic castle for the Groenendaal College. The school is located in the sheltered part of the castle park, near the pond. The pavilion that carefully places itself in this delicate context, while at the same time making maximum use of the location to create a special learning environment. The result is a highly sustainable buidling, through minimal energy consumption and the use of circular construction techniques. The main structure consists of CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) by Stora Enso. Also all other finishing materials have been selected in function of environmental friendliness and ease of dismantling for maintenance or replacement. In this respect, Groenendaal College can serve as an example for future wooden school buildings.
