When school holidays started this July 2023, 185 primary school children and their teachers said, 'Auf Wiedersehen' to their cramped 30-year-old school building.

When they return after the summer holidays in just a few short months, they will be saying hello to an eight million euro modern sustainable school with large glass windows.

The speed of construction and high sustainability score is enabled in part by Sylva™ by Stora Enso. The prefabricated construction kit is half the weight of concrete and twice as strong as steel. This means the school can keep the existing fabric and extend the building with a new wing in the southeast, and a main wing in the northwest, closing the gap between the sports hall and the River Salzach. No need for expensive and polluting demolition. And no need for months or years of school children learning in container schools.

The new facility will be universally accessible to children and teachers of all abilities. The rooms will be flexible enough so they can be changed or adapted to keep up with advances in teaching and technology over time as well as the ever-increasing population in the district.
