Version of this project
Welcome to the redevelopment and refurbishment of the iconic Woolworth House in the heart of London’s West End.
The Metropolis (242 Marylebone Road) has now topped out and installed its last structural member.
The project is a refurbishment and extension of an existing eight-storey office building and will be one of the most amenity-rich workplaces in London, with external gardens and terraces, an in-house coffee shop, a rooftop bar, a tenant lounge, a private gym and hospitality-inspired spaces.
Thanks to General Projects & Henderson Park's careful retention of the existing building material, they believe they have saved over 4,239 tonnes of carbon.
Further carbon savings were achieved with the use of Sylva™ CLT building kit manufactured by Stora Enso and supplied by specialist timber sub-contractor B&K Structures.
Metropolis is is due to be completed in summer 2024. Check back soon for more updates as this project develops.
Specifications
Metropolis will be one of only four refurbishments to ever achieve BREEAM Outstanding in the UK and will be 80% more efficient than the average retrofit, being powered solely by renewables.
