Version of this project
An extension for a sports community building in Milton Keynes comprising two linked sports halls.
This project was constructed using prefabricated Sylva by Stora Enso, ensuring a sustainable and efficient building process.
The extension provides enhanced facilities for the local community, promoting physical activity and social engagement. The use of prefabricated Sylva elements not only reduced the construction process but also ensured high-quality finished build.
The completed development is a low, single-storey building with an angled footprint at its center, creating an entrance/reception area. It featured a mono-pitched roof, folded to highlight the vertical dynamics of the interior spaces and mirror the terraced terrain of the surrounding field.
The south-facing roof section allowed for varied elevational treatments, with a lower, fluctuating roofline along the southern boundary that rose around the corners to a higher northern edge facing the playing fields.
The architectural concept for the pavilion offered a dynamic and stimulating complex with a contemporary design. The rational form and structure evoked a sense of movement, reflecting the internal activities and consequently enthusing and enticing visitors to the facility, encouraging its use by the local community.
This project was shortlisted for the RICS Community Bulletin Project in 2013.
