Version of this project
Haltia is a new type of visitor centre, bringing all of Finland’s nature under one roof. Completed in May 2013 Haltia is the first public building in Finland constructed using CLT by Stora Enso based massive wood elements. The 5 200 m² delivery included CLT elements for the exterior and partition walls, intermediate floors and roof, as well as glue-laminated joists for the roof and balcony structures. The Finnish Nature Centre Haltia has won the 2013 Finnish Wood Award (Puupalkinto)! Main reasons for the first place were a strong and modern presence of wood, the subtle way of using wood and innovative solutions, such as CLT technology, Q-Treated wood (both from Stora Enso) and excellent energy solutions.
