Version of this project
Brothers Wines s.r.o. is a family-owned winery located in the heart of South Moravia, known for producing high-quality wines. They offer a diverse range of wines and emphasizes sustainable practices and the use of traditional methods to create wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region so it was only fitting that their new wine gallery would also be made with sustainable materials and methods.
Brothers Wines Winery opened its wine gallery and e-shop in Rakvice, CZ, after a very short construction time using prefabricated cross-laminated timber elements. The interiors of the building are a beautiful example of the use of visual grade CLT on the interior walls, which can enhance the visual and aromatic experience for clientele.
This wine gallery has impressive views of the vineyards and is designed as an extension to the existing main structure, showcasing the versatility and aesthetic appeal of exposed wood.
The building comprises two identical sections with gable roofs open to the ridge, featuring glazed gabled walls.
The two separate sections are connected by a flat roof, under which lies the entrance from cantilevered terraces built with prefabricated Sylva™ CLT Floors, Roofs and Walls elements.
Prefabricated Sylva™ CLT elements ensured precision, reduced construction time, and minimized on-site waste, making the building process more efficient and sustainable.
About the designers
INNOVAplan s.r.o. is dedicated to modern and healthy living through the application of sustainable wood. They believe in building homes with innovative, efficient, and sustainable methods, moving beyond traditional materials and techniques they can further reduce operational costs from heating and cooling energy. Their focus on CLT offers unique advantages in terms of strength, construction speed, and energy efficiency.
Sustainability
The Sylva kit generated only two tonnes of greenhouse gases (CO₂e) to manufacture and less thank one tonne of CO₂e to transport, (0.17 to be exact). To put this in perspective the average European generates approximately 5.66 tonnes of green house gases per year1. Source This EDGAR database created by the European Commission).
Compared to the 29 tonnes of carbon dioxide that the trees removed while growing and will store in the building, this is a small fraction. Choosing Sylva CLT elements instead of non-renewables avoided 43 tonnes of greenhouse gases. (Source: Stora Enso Carbon Calculator. Try it out and see what how small the carbon footprint of your project would be too).
Growing business
The application of exposed mass timber is proven to create a calming environment that resonates in retail locations. Recent studies reveal that we are more likely to spend more time (and money) in biophilic-designed retail spaces as they make us feel welcomed, calmed, and connected (Source).
Many Influential brands like BUGA showroom and service garage and Penny Supermarket and more are also designing their showrooms and offices with Sylva™ by Stora Enso because the renewable material resonates with conscious consumers who prefer businesses that prioritize environmental responsibility.
