MAK Building

Set in the alpine village of Lundo, in northern Italy, the LunDuo project features two timber-clad residential buildings. With sweeping views of the Brenta Dolomites, the design showcases how timber construction can complement and enhance natural landscapes while delivering modern, sustainable living.

Timber Structure and detailing

The buildings are constructed with a Sylva™ kit of parts by Stora Enso, anchored to a reinforced concrete curb (15×50 cm) that raises the timber walls above the finished floor level-offering improved protection against moisture. The floors use Sylva™ CLT elements with a thickness of 160 mm, while the roof combines glulam spruce beams, mineral wool insulation, and a double ventilation system. Traditional clay tiles and anthracite-colored sheet metal flashings complete the roof, which also includes integrated photovoltaic panels to support renewable energy use.

Community living

One building contains two spacious apartments, while the other houses four units, each with independent access. A central pedestrian courtyard connects the volumes, fostering a sense of community and connection. The façade alternates between neutral plaster and ventilated larch cladding, blending durability with alpine aesthetics. Large, glazed surfaces bring in natural light and reinforce the connection to the outdoors.
