Version of this project
Casa Velar is a contemporary alpine duplex residence built on a foundation of trust and continuity, the result of a long-standing collaboration with returning clients. Located in Vason, Trento at 1650 meters on Mount Bondone, the house blends harmoniously with its mountain surroundings—lush and green in summer, snow-covered and serene in winter.
The project involved demolishing an old building and constructing a new timber home composed of two independent housing units stacked vertically across two floors. Each unit features a private entrance, outdoor space (terrace or garden), and shared access paths.
The structure combines a reinforced concrete basement with two above-ground levels built with prefabricated cross-laminated timber (Sylva CLT Walls, Floors and Roofs), complete with mineral wool insulation, low-energy systems, and a custom-designed laminated timber staircase.
The interior layout includes garages and storage on the lower level; living areas on the ground floor with open kitchen, living room, study/bedroom, and guest bathroom; and sleeping areas upstairs with three bedrooms, balconies, and a panoramic terrace.
Architecturally, the home reinterprets traditional alpine forms with a modern language: a single-pitch glulam roof, corner glazing, glass railings, and a refined interplay of exterior finishes.
Designed to meet A+ energy standards, it features triple-glazed windows, underfloor heating, and photovoltaic systems-ensuring comfort and energy efficiency in the heart of the Alps.
