This award-winning modern detached house in Syria showcases mass timber construction, maximising limited space with elegant simplicity with a Sylva™ kit of parts

With impeccably simple, clean lines, this modern detached house won the 2023 Timber Construction Awards in Syria (residential building category) - a prestigious award in the Austrian province with a long tradition of wood construction.

The plot is located in a constricted area of the neighborhood, which only allows for limited development. Despite this challenge, the planners generously maximized the allowable space, creating a unique spatial experience all the way up to the rafters.

The advantages of building with a Sylva™ kit of parts were skillfully implemented, including sound insulation and load distribution optimization.

The experienced mass timber specialists, ZMP, and their partners ALPE Zimmerei and Tischlerei GmbH implemented the challenging planning specifications in an outstanding manner, demonstrating a very high level of technical expertise.

The building has a simple elegance both inside and out. The central living space has an impressive spaciousness that is open and bordered by a gallery on the upper floor.

Despite the limited usable area, the available space fulfils the family's needs exactly and beautifully proves that sometimes less really does mean more.
